e-Tracking system in The Gambia

GRA Chief Applauds Cutting-Edge Customs Solutions from Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd.

In a powerful recent statement, the Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) expressed high praise for the transformative impact of Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd., particularly in the areas of trade monitoring, customs security, and national revenue collection.

“Our success is driven by strong political will. With that foundation, we’ve been able to implement one of the most advanced scanning systems in Africa, located right here at the Banjul Seaport,” he said.

Commissioner General, GRA

📦 Cutting-Edge Trade Technologies Now in Place

The collaboration between GRA and Nick TC-Scan has led to the implementation of several innovative technologies, including:

  • State-of-the-art cargo scanning systems for both imports and exports

  • A digital weighbridge for accurate bulk cargo assessments

  • The Gambia National Single Window (GNSW) platform for seamless coordination among customs stakeholders

  • The groundbreaking e-Tracking system to monitor transit goods in real time

  • The Optical Character Recognition System for tallying containers

🚛 Why e-Tracking Matters for National Revenue

Before e-tracking, The Gambia faced significant challenges with transit goods. Imported goods intended for countries like Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Conakry were often diverted within Gambia before reaching their destination, resulting in tax evasion and revenue loss.

This also applied to fuel tankers, with some offloading untaxed fuel into local markets. Such practices threatened the integrity of the customs system.

But with the introduction of the e-Tracking system in The Gambia, this is no longer the case.

“Now, every cargo exiting the port is tagged and monitored in real time via satellite. The system is geofenced across the country, and two independent monitoring centers in Banjul and Serekunda operate 24/7 to track these movements,” the Commissioner General stated.

Commissioner General, GRA

📡 How the System Works

Each transit cargo is fitted with an e-tracking device the moment it departs from port. If a truck goes off its designated route, the system immediately triggers an alert, prompting enforcement teams to act.

This level of precision and oversight has become a critical tool for preventing tax evasion, enhancing border security, and strengthening the GRA’s ability to protect national revenue.

🚀 A Vision for the Future

Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd. continues to be a strategic partner in The Gambia’s journey towards smarter, safer, and more transparent trade. As the Commissioner General emphasized, these innovations are not just about technology—they are about transforming how trade is conducted and safeguarded across the country.
