We are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders involved in the customs clearance and trade facilitation process have the knowledge and skills to optimize their roles effectively.
As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance national security, we recently held a comprehensive refresher training for the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Gambia Ports Authority, shipping agents, and representatives from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), including Immigration, The Gambia Police Force, and the State Intelligence Service (SIS).
This training is crucial for aligning stakeholders with the latest technologies and procedures employed at the Port of Banjul to ensure more efficient customs clearance, secure trade, and improved revenue collection.
Purpose of the Refresher Training
The refresher training was designed to reinforce knowledge and introduce updates on our non-intrusive container scanning, e-tracking systems, and the Gambia National Single Window (GNSW), a cutting-edge digital customs clearance platform. By providing tailored training sessions, we ensure that everyone involved in the customs and trade processes is proficient in using our advanced systems, which help reduce processing times, minimize errors, and increase transparency.
Key Topics Covered in the Training
Participants received hands-on training on the following core areas:
- Non-Intrusive Container Scanning: Updates on the latest scanning technology that helps improve security checks while minimizing delays at the port.
- Gambia National Single Window (GNSW): Training on how the unified platform simplifies document submission, tracking, and customs clearance processes.
- E-Tracking System: Demonstrations on how the e-tracking system helps monitor goods movement across borders in real time.
- Collaboration Across Agencies: Enhanced communication protocols between government agencies like GRA, GPA, Immigration, and SIS for effective coordination and swift decision-making.
Boosting Trade Facilitation and National Security
This training not only refreshes the technical skills of GRA, GPA, and other stakeholders but also fosters collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve trade facilitation. With a focus on security, participants learned how to prevent illegal goods from entering the country and enhance revenue collection by identifying discrepancies in cargo declarations.
As the custodians of the non-intrusive scanning system at the Port of Banjul, we believe in continuous education and engagement with all relevant stakeholders. This helps us uphold our mission to improve national security, streamline trade, and enhance the government’s revenue collection processes.
Strengthening Partnerships
Through this refresher training, We reinforced our commitment to supporting the Government of The Gambia, GRA, GPA, and other MDAs in their mission to boost trade efficiency, protect national security, and ensure transparent customs operations.
Our close partnership with Customs Uni-Pass International Agency (CUPIA) and Ghana Link Network Services Limited continues to bear fruit, as we aim to replicate the success of the Single Window System in The Gambia.
Positive Feedback from Participants
The training received positive feedback from all participants, with many expressing their gratitude for the detailed and interactive sessions. Attendees acknowledged the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest technological tools to improve their daily operations and looked forward to more opportunities to enhance their expertise.
